Cruiselines will significantly ramp up agent training on their attempts at being environmentally friendly this year.
The Association of Cruise Experts said its training will include sections on cruise ships’ efforts to be green, such as on-board recycling.
Director of business development Andy Harmer said: “It is an issue we have to confront and we will add it to our training this year. This will prepare agents for when they have clients who want to know about [ships’ practices].
“As customers become more aware of the environment they will ask more questions. The cruise industry is working very hard on this, and recycling on ships is superior to that of most hotels.”
This year’s ACE Convention has sold out. Organisers have increased numbers and the event, in Southampton in May, will host 580 delegates.
