Heathrow Terminal 5: what travel agents should tell clients flying BA

If you have clients flying British Airways from Heathrow Terminal 5, make sure they know exactly what to expect. Ian Taylor shares some tips

Which terminal? Check whether your flight departs from Terminal 5.

Arrival: Not every Piccadilly line train will go to T5. Check the front of the train. There will be no pedestrian access from other terminals. However, all Heathrow Express trains will go to T5.

Check-in: Must be completed no later than 45 minutes before departure time. Use a self-service kiosk or check in online and then a fast-bag drop desk.

Ticket queries: These will not be dealt with at check in. Go to a customer service desk.

Security: Proceed straight through security. Passengers not in departures 35 minutes before departure will be denied boarding.

Domestic passengers: Expect to have fingerprints taken (update: plans to take fingerprints were postponed on March 27)

Boarding: Gates will be for boarding only, with no last-minute seat or other changes.

Transfers: Coaches should run between the terminals every six to eight minutes. Passengers can use the Heathrow Express at no cost.
