Passengers using the main airport in Sri Lanka face three months of disruption due to runway resurfacing work.
Colombo’s Bandaranaike international airport will be closed from 8am to 4.30pm every day until April 6 while the work is carried out.
Airlines are advising passengers to check in five hours prior to departure in order to avoid queues or delays, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said in an updated travel advisory.
Sri Lankan Airlines, which runs a service to Heathrow, said: “Passenger check-in counters shall be open for five hours and will be closed 60 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure.
“Passengers reporting 90 minutes or later to the scheduled time of departure shall not be permitted to proceed for check-in
“During this period, visitors would not be permitted into the lobby area of the airport.”
The airline said passengers could check-in online or use self-service kiosks in the departure terminal.
