Triton Conference: Agents call for more focus on members

Travel agents demanded Triton bosses explain the relevance of the group at the Triton conference today.

In a question and answer session, delegates put their concerns to Advantage chief executive John McEwan, Global Travel Group Travel chief executive Andrew Botterill and Worldchoice chairman Colin Heal.

Mark’s Travel director Mark Hurrell said: “What you have said is not relevant to me and my business. I haven’t heard anything new.”

Holiday Box director Jenny Pheby said: “We are very new and joined Triton for support, but haven’t had any so far.”

Colin Heal said the group was continuing to provide products that are not available elsewhere, and that communication should be the focus going forward.

He said: “We need more communication to make sure members know what’s going on, this has been the problem up until now.

“Merger talks have not had a single affect on the service we provide to agents.”

Responding to a question from the floor, John McEwan denied Advantage had discouraged members from attending the Triton conference.

“Members felt a stronger affinity with the Advantage conference. They said they could not afford the time and money to go to both, so we had to respect their wishes.”
