Car rental – WTM

Alamo

Alamo will be promoting its retail rates for 2000 on its stand in the Global Village. Operators will be able to see a demonstration of Alamo’s new password-protected Web site which gives up-to-date reports about its car-rental business, while agents can have their photo taken with one of two celebrity lookalikes!

Avis

The environment is the main theme on Avis’ recyclable stand – it will also be used for WTM 2000 – as the company promotes its links with Future Forests. It is committed to planting 26,000 trees by May 2000 to offset emissions of Avis UK rental cars. In a daily business-card draw, 15 extra trees a day will be planted on behalf of the winner.

Budget

Budget’s first double-decker stand has been designed to provide a meeting area upstairs, while downstairs the focus will be Team Budget, the agents’ reward and training programme. New members signed at the show could win one of two prizes each day.

Europcar

Europcar is running a scratch-card competition for agents with on-the-spot prizes such as baseball caps and T-shirts, and a chance to win a pair of tickets for the British Grand Prix. To whet visitors’ appetites, a Ferrari Formula 1 car will be on the stand. The focus on the stand will be on developments including Eurodrive Options, which allows customers to take their hire car through any of the 17 countries in mainland Europe for an additional £45; launch of the Performance Fleet; and expansion into China and Mexico.

Hertz

As part of its push into the holiday market, Hertz will be promoting its leisure programme. Details of agent initiatives and Hertz’ price promise will also be available.

For the first time Hertz will have a hospitality area on the first floor at Earl’s Court where buyers can meet management away from the bustle of the exhibition floor.

Holiday Autos

Holiday Autos is unveiling its Web site which will allow agents to book over the Internet. The management team will be on hand to give advice about minimum age and driving licence requirements, product news, sales tips and competitions.

National

To highlight its global expansion, National is expecting more than 40 representatives from places as far flung as Costa Rica, Thailand and Australia. Details will be available of a promotion offering rental of a Vauxhall Vectra anywhere in mainland Europe for 39 euros. National is sponsoring WTM’s information desks, route finders and student guides.

Suncars

Suncars is taking its own stand for the first time this year, which will be yellow and blue to reflect its corporate colours. As well as promoting its contract with First Choice, which starts in May 2000, there will also be details of Suncars’ latest rental brochure which features lead-in prices from £60 for a week in Malaga and weekend rates from £39. Suncars is also taking space on the Consolidata stand.
