Barwell Travel ceases trading

Tour operator Barwell Travel  has ceased trading blaming the current credit crunch.

In the statement on its website the company said: “During the past few months, the company has been in serious negotiations with numerous interested tour operators / investors with a view to concluding either a trade sale or inward investment.

“It is deeply regretted partially due to the current ‘credit crisis’ that management were unable to get one of those deals concluded prior to the expiry of the current ATOL licence. As a consequence, the directors took the decision to protect the company’s affairs by seeking the appointment of administrators to the company.”

The company was based at the Coach House, Elm Road, Chessington, Surrey.

The company used to trade under the following trading names: Barwell Leisure, Barr Sporting Tours, Barwell European Classic Resorts, Barwell Events, Barwell
Events and Sports Travel (BEST), Footballer’s Golf Classic, Golf Groups Direct, La Manga Tennis & The Barwell Collection.

Menzies has been appointed as the administrator.
