UK managing director Peter Richardson said: “We carry out that itinerary every year but we have moved our biggest ship on to it because it is our most saleable product.
“Costa Atlantica has taken over from Costa Victoria on that route. Costa Victoria will be doing a seven-day itinerary out of Genoa instead.”
The new $375m Costa Atlantica, which will have a capacity of 2,680 passengers, will increase Costa’s total capacity by 30%.
After sailing in the Mediterranean between July and October, the ship will cross the Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale to start an alternating programme of cruises to the east and west Caribbean for winter 2000/2001.
Meanwhile, the introduction of a seventh ship to the fleet has allowed Costa to create two brand new seven-night Mediterranean itineraries for summer 2000.
In May, Costa Riviera will offer a cruise named Classical Greece out of Savona in Italy. Prices start from £880 per person. Between June and October the ship will sail out of Savona on a cruise dubbed Mediterranean Odyssey, stopping at destinations such as Cannes, Barcelona, Palermo and Rome. The lead-in price is £825 per person.
The new brochure has been increased in size from 90 to 98 pages and given a complete redesign featuring the company’s new logo.
Costa is offering a 15% discount to customers who book at least six months in advance.
