My travel career: Dominic Carrick, account manager, Cellet Travel Services

Dominic Carrick, account manager, Cellet Travel ServicesCellet Travel Services account manager Dominic Carrick tells Travel Weekly how he started out in travel, and what led him to his current position.

What was your first job in travel?

Overseas holiday rep in Ibiza for Panorama Holidays

How did you climb the career ladder?

By having travel in my blood, caring about the industry and by making sure I was noticed and remembered. I also come from a family who have always worked in the travel industry – Carrick Travel!

What does it take to be good at your job?

Having patience and the ability to multi-task. As one of only two males among the Cellet girls, multi-tasking is closely monitored.

What are the big challenges in your job?

Ensuring I produce maximum return on investment for my clients and instilling the Las Vegas wow factor in everything I do.  I also like to ensure we never repeat a marketing campaign.

What’s the best part of your job?

The varied nature of the role, visiting Las Vegas and upstate Nevada as well as looking after the showgirls at events…isn’t that every guy’s dream?

And the worst?

That would have to be jet lag. Despite the amount of travel I do I still can’t beat it jet lag.

What’s the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

Always read the question, then re-read your answer before hitting send.

If you weren’t working in travel what would you be doing?

Martin Johnson has recently taken my ideal job – he was appointed team manager for England’s national rugby team in April. I know he’s looking for an assistant and I have been told my management and coaching skills are very good.
