Direct Ferries seeks closer agent links

Ferry booking and comparison site Direct Ferries wants to work more closely with UK agents as it eyes expansion and is offering half of the commission it earns.

The site has an agent booking platform and wants agents to consider it as an alternative when creating tailor-made holidays.

In 2016 the firm’s network expanded to 2,475 ferry routes connecting passengers to more than 232 countries and islands.

Managing director Matt Davies said the site was often overlooked by agents and it could be used in tailor-made bookings as ‘alternative transfers’ in island resorts as well as channel ferries.

“We have thousands of partners worldwide. Although larger ferries are a big part of our business, we work closely with smaller companies, in places such as Thailand.

“A transfer from the airport to a hotel could be a boat or ferry ride to an island in Thailand or even Venice. We can offer this through our agent site.”

Through this site the company offers a 50% commission split, an average of £5-£10 per booking, with the potential for this to rise.

Davies said it wanted to work more closely with agents after the site reported a 35% increase in global bookings last year.

He added: “We want to recruit 50 people to maximise what we have got and also to facilitate how much we are growing by every year.

“We currently have 100 staff members. At some point we will have a team to focus on agents as well as our consumers.”
