Facebook group set up to improve image of Kenya

A Facebook group has been set up to help improve the image of Kenya to tourists, following the political unrest earlier this year.

Acacia Adventure Holidays has set up the Crazy About Kenya Facebook campaign to use art and hip hop music to generate excitement about the destination.

Artists from Kiberia, one of Nairobi’s biggest slums, have developed music and artwork for the project. Facebook members are also encouraged to upload and share Kenyan art and music.

The operator will be featuring the tracks on their overland itineraries and plans to add Nairobi based hip hop events to some scheduled tours.

Sales and marketing co-ordinator Kate Plummer said: “There’s still some confusion about Kenya in relation to safety. We are hoping that the new campaign will allay those fears and help get the destination back on track. It will also aid travel agents selling Kenya, with consumers speading the work in the online community.”
