Executive vice president & co-owner of AmaWaterways Kristin Karst and president Rudi Schreiner with AmaWaterways godmothers and special guests at the christening
AmaWaterways christened its 20th river cruise ship in Lahnstein, Germany this week.
The 158-passenger AmaKristina has been named after its owner and executive vice president Kirsten Karst who is also the vessel’s godmother.
The ship will sail Rhine River itineraries from Basel to Amsterdam in 2017 and features connecting cabins, three dining venues and a heated pool with swim-up bar.
Karst and president Rudi Schreiner attended a special ceremony to officially launch the ship last night (Weds).
Around 200 guests attended the christening which featured a dockside cocktail reception, a traditional religious blessing and culminated with a fireworks display.
The luxury river cruise line is also celebrating its 15th anniversary this year as it prepares to launch five new ships by 2019.
Karst said: “I am overjoyed and blessed to share this occasion with my parents, close friends and respected industry partners. It’s such an incredible honor to be the Godmother and namesake of this newest addition to the Ama family.”
“I never dreamed that as a young girl growing up in Dresden on the banks of the Elbe River that I would one day have a ship named after me.
“The last 15 years have been a remarkable journey and today. I am so proud to christen our newest ship and take this moment to thank all our guests, employees, onboard teams, ship builders and travel industry partners that have contributed to our success.”
