The head of American Homeland Security says authorities in the States are still considering banning laptops from cabin baggage on all international flights.
John Kelly has said that terrorists are “obsessed” with taking down a US aircraft.
President Donald Trump signed-off a ban on electronics larger than a smart phone on flights to the US from eight mainly-Muslim countries in March.
An extended ban to include European countries was rejected earlier this month but has not been taken off the table.
American authorities are understood to believe that terrorists could conceal a bomb within a laptop or similar sized electronic device.
Speaking to Fox News Sunday after the terrorist attack in Manchester that killed 22 people, Kelly said he “might” ban laptops on all international flights.
He added: “We’re still following intelligence.
“It is a real sophisticated threat and I reserve that decision until we see where it’s going.”
The current ban affects passengers on board flights from Turkey, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The UK followed suit and issued similar rules for flights from six countries.
Many industry experts have warned the ban could be extended despite widespread criticism.
