Tourist traffic using Eurotunnel’s Le Shuttle services fell back in June after being boosted by European football championships at the same time last year.
Passenger numbers using the Channel Tunnel shuttle fell back by 7% last month to 231,111 vehicles against June 2016.
Overall passenger shuttle traffic has declined by 2% since January with 1.16 million vehicles transported, according to Eurotunnel.
The Channel Tunnel operator said last month’s figure “was penalised by an unfavourable comparison with 2016 due to the UEFA Euro of Football France in June 2016.”
The figures were released today ahead of Eurotunnel’s half year results which are due to be issued on July 25.
