Agents on the Spot: India

Frances Peake, Peakes Travel

Before: “I thought of India as a dirty, smelly place full of hawkers and beggars. Apart from the Taj Mahal I knew very little of its architecture or history. I was also wary of Delhi belly and poor accommodation.”

After: “The hotels are excellent and food is very good – not too highly spiced for European palates. Provided you can cope with the poverty aspect – and with a Cox and Kings tour you do avoid a lot of this – then India is a wonderful place to visit.

Catherine Hately, Norseman Travel

Before: “India was never a country I wanted to visit. Ialways envisaged it to be full of poverty, very dirty and unattractive with a few famous monuments such as the Taj Mahal.”

After: “The people were friendly. It was an amazing country, so much to see and experience from a rickshaw ride to the beauty of the Taj Mahal.”

Heather Haslam, St Andrews Travel

Before: “I was wary of the hygiene and poverty of the country and expected India to be more barren and some of the hotels to have less facilities. I wondered whether I would be disappointed when we actually arrived and saw the Taj Mahal.”

After: It was much greener and lusher than I thought. The Palace hotels were beautiful and the service of a high standard. The sights are unbelievable and the Taj Mahal was breathtaking.”

Sarah Iles, British Airways Travel Shop

Before: “I thought it would be dirty, unfriendly, poor hotels and poor transport. I was worried about the food and worried about getting ill.”

After: “The people were friendly, they gave the best customer service. The hotels were wonderful with excellent transport. Apart from the odd tummy bug, I would definitely recommend India to our clients. A place to remember.”
