Wendy Wu Tours is launching its 2009 brochure on the same day as the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics.
Managing director Laurence Hicks said the date of the launch, August 8, for the China specialist’s new programme has been picked to try and generate maximum exposure.
The date is also thought to be doubly auspicious as eight is a lucky number in Chinese culture.
In order to drive sales and to further capitalise on the lucky number eight, the operator is offering an £80 early-booking discount, providing they book within 80 days of the launch date.
Hicks said: “We have worked hard to ensure our brochure launches on the same day as the Olympics opening ceremony for added impact. “We have deliberately targeted August when all the world’s eyes will be on China and we believe interest in the country will be at an all time high.
“Agents have a real opportunity and we want them to grasp it with both hands.”
Hicks added the operator is sending out more brochures to agents than ever before following the signing of a number of new commercial deals while a series of eight agent road shows are being held around the country.
