At least 45 dead in Madrid aircraft crash

At least 45 people have been killed after a Spanair aircraft swerved of the runway in Madrid’s Barajas airport.

Spanish officials said many others of the 116 passengers and six crew were further injured in the incident which happened at 2.45pm as the Spanair flight took off bound for Gran Canaria.

Reports have stated that a fire started in the left-engine during the aircraft’s take off.

While aircraft have continued to use the airport’s other runways, concerns are arising that flights to and from the airport will be subject to both delay and cancellation.
