Inca Trail bookers urged to secure their space for 2018

Agents with travellers who want to hike Peru’s famous Inca Trail are being urged to book now to secure their space on the trek in 2018.

Inca Trail permits for 2018 are available this week, but the Peruvian government will only award permits for bookings with complete traveller details, according to G Adventures.

There is a limit of 500 permits / people per day on the Inca Trail, including porters and cooks, with the operator cautioning that it cannot promise permits for tentative trekkers.

Permits for January and March are now available – the Inca Trail is closed for maintenance in February – and permits for April are available from today.

Permits for early May are available from Tuesday and the second half of May from Wednesday. June permits become available from October 12.

G Adventures managing director Brian Young said timing is critical for those who have their heart set on hiking the Inca Trail in 2018.

“The sooner the better to confirm those bookings. If travellers book now, we can 100% guarantee their permit, as we will purchase their permit one day after they book,” he said.

“The Peruvian government has opened up permits earlier this year, so that means travellers need to book sooner, too.”

The company secured almost 8,000 permits on behalf of its customers around the globe this year.
