Online Travel Group confirms failure

The Online Travel Group has confirmed it is in the hands of administrators, with the loss of 20 jobs and around 500 forward bookings.

The group operated as a travel intermediary selling ferry crossings, airport parking, hotels, holidays and travel insurance.

Freedom Travel Group has taken over the package-holiday bookings, according to adminstrator Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis. Bennett said: “Forward bookings are mostly being honoured by ferry operators under agency agreements. All package holidays, confirmed and not yet travelled, are being dealt with by Freedom Travel Group.”

The Online Travel Group was launched in 1999 and reported a turnover of £7.7 million last year. It did not hold an Air Tour Organiser’s Licence (ATOL) and was not a member of travel asssociation ABTA.

Bennett said: “It is apparent from our brief investigation that the company had run out of options. Credit terms had been drastically shortened by key trading partners. We are selling parts of the business where possible.”

The groups’s call centre in Leeds has closed and just two staff remain at the central London head office to help with the adminstration. No one from Online Travel was available for comment.
