Online Travel Group administration cost 20 jobs

The Online Travel Group went into administration with the loss of 20 jobs and an unspecified number of forward bookings.

The web agency sold ferry crossings, trips to Disneyland Resort Paris, ski holidays, accommodation, airport parking and travel insurance.

Freedom Travel Group confirmed it has taken over bookings of the failed company’s World Travellers brand. Online Travel Group also traded as WorldSki, Cheap4Travel and Online TravelCover.

The group did not hold an ATOL and none of its brands was an ABTA member. But World Travellers was a member of Freedom Travel Group – part of The Co-operative Travel Group – which is an ABTA member and holds an ATOL.

The Online Travel Group failed with up to 750 advance ferry bookings and an unknown number of other reservations.

Administrator Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis said: “Forward bookings are mostly being honoured by ferry operators.”

Stena Line confirmed this.

The group was launched in 1999 and reported a turnover of £7.7 million last year. However, it lost £53,000 in 2005/06 – after previously reporting a £250,000 profit – and lost £160,000 in 2006/07. Debts are likely to total £2 million.

Bennett said: “The company had run out of options. Credit terms had been drastically shortened by trading partners.” No one from Online Travel Group was available for comment.
