13 million Brits to take winter holidays as Christmas is ‘boring’

A quarter of Britons have dismissed Christmas as “boring” with 13 million more admitting they will be swapping their traditional summer holiday for a winter break.

Nearly a fifth – 16% – of people surveyed said they would be looking to go on a warm winter holiday to avoid unwanted evenings with their extended family during the festive period.

Discount provider MyVoucherCodes.co.uk quizzed 1,000 holidaymakers across the UK to get a better understanding of how the British wish to spend the winter holiday period.

Tenerife (30%), Lanzarote (21%) and Florida (17%) are three most popular winter sun destinations for British holidaymakers, with 7% saying they would go to Thailand or Morocco.

Chris Reilly, managing director for MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “More Brits are flying to warmer climates over Christmas than ever before and spending more than they did in the summer.

“With over 76% of people booking holidays online nowadays, there are plenty of deals and offers to help keep more money in your pockets for those piña coladas.”
