Viking has placed an order for seven river cruise ships that will debut in 2019.
The new order includes six 190-passenger Viking Longships which will sail the company’s itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers.
The smaller, seventh vessel – hosting 106 passengers – will cruise down Portugal’s Douro River.
The order will increase Viking’s fleet around the world to 76 river vessels in 2019.
Viking will also welcome its sixth ocean ship in the same year.
Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, said: “We knew there was an opportunity to do things differently when we started 20 years ago.
“The Viking way of exploration has resonated with our target audience of experienced travellers.
“This new ship order is a reflection of strong demand for more destination-focused cruises.”
