Hotel review: Ferienart Resort and Spa, Saas Fee, Switzerland

Emily Bamber checks out the Ferienart Resort and Spa in Saas Fee, Switzerland as part of a feature on skiing and snowboarding

The Ferienart is arguably the best hotel in Saas Fee – a large central chalet-style property spread over two sites with an enormous spa joining them at ground level.

Upon arrival we were immediately welcomed with a drink and ushered to armchairs by the fire, a sign of things to come – the service was excellent throughout.

All rooms have balconies mine was a standard double facing the street in the older wing with a very comfortable bed but inadequate curtains that let the streetlight in no matter how I arranged them.

Fluffy white robes and slippers were provided for padding down to the spa, which was the highlight of the hotel. As well as a huge pool with neighbouring juice bar, there was a Jacuzzi for soaking away the aches and pains as well as a series saunas, steam rooms and relaxation rooms where, in typical Alpine style, nudity seemed mandatory.

The hotel has five restaurants – international, Asian, Italian, High Table (an exclusive set-up served in part of the kitchen) and gourmet snacks, and guests on a half-board basis can choose between them.

The hotel has its own ski equipment hire shop, which is hugely convenient, although snowboarders have to go up the road to another shop.
