Former Abta president John Dunscombe has died.
Dunscombe, who was managing director of Washington Travel in Wales, served on various Abta committees before becoming president in the late 1980s.
Abta said Dunscombe navigated the association through “difficult times” in the early 1990s due to economic turbulence following the first Gulf War.
In a statement Abta said: “Under Dunscombe’s presidency, which also saw him taking on the role of chief executive for a period of time, which he subsequently took up on a full time basis, Abta restructured and continued to thrive.”
It added that Dunscombe combined “immense affability with great professionalism” and “gave great commitment and long service to our industry and he will be missed”.
