Phoenix also has a $1.3 billion metro light-rail scheduled to begin service on December 27. It will link the city to the neighbouring communities of Tempe and Mesa, and include stops at attractions such as Phoenix Art Museum, the Heard Museum, Chase Field and US Airways Center.

North Carolina Division of Tourism and Film (NA2000)

The North Carolina Division of Tourism and Film is aiming to flag up several major events for the state in 2009 at World Travel Market.

Among them are the 75th anniversary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2009 and the 60th Anniversary of the first NASCAR race at the Lowes Motor Speedway. It also recently opened what has been named as the most eco-friendly hotel in the US. The property is described as lavish and luxurious.

NYC and Company (NA2200)

Visitors to NYC and Company, New York City’s marketing and tourism organisation, will learn about the launch of the city’s first online training programme targeting British travel agents.

The two-year programme is aimed at making front-line sales staff from the city’s top overseas market ‘NYC Specialists’. The city is also aiming to flag up its charms at World Travel Market, which include the New York City Explorer Pass, ‘Choose 5’, which offers admission to a choice of five of New York City’s 33 headline attractions and top tours. Major hotel developments are continuing in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.

California Tourism (NA1100)

The California Academy of Sciences will be part of the delegation on the California stand.
