UK and Ireland: WTM exhibitor preview

Visit London (L3000)

The London Olympics in 2012 may still be a way off, but Visit London, the official tourism agency for the capital, is getting into its stride well in advance.

Visit London will be giving away 10,000 London Pass vouchers at World Travel Market. The vouchers can be exchanged for London Passes at the Britain and London Visitor Centre in Lower Regent Street. Worth £39 each, the passes allow free entry into 55 London attractions.

See Tickets will be sharing Visit London’s stand and bringing along some colourful characters from a West End show. One lucky visitor to the stand will win a luxury weekend in the capital, including a night at the Cavendish hotel and tickets to a top theatre show.

Visit London deputy chief executive Sally Chatterjee said: “In 2008 the world witnessed London’s celebrations on becoming the official host city of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Visit London aims to build on that momentum through our marketing and travel trade campaigns.

“At World Travel Market, we will be promoting everything that’s great about London, from world-class theatre shows to our vibrant cultural offering, iconic visitor attractions and superb range of accommodation.”

Visit London will be exhibiting in the London Pavilion along with many of London’s top tourism businesses.

East of England Tourism (UKI1700)

East of England Tourism has relaunched Visiteastofengland.com, which was voted website of the week by The Times earlier this year. It has also launched Eat East, a section on its website dedicated to the best food and drink in the region.

During the 2012 Olympic Games, East of England will be hosting two competitions – mountain biking at Hadleigh Farm, near Benfleet, Essex, and the canoe/kayak slalom at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire. Stansted is exhibiting on the same stand.

Choice Hotels and Maldron Hotels (UKI1500)

Choice Hotels will be bringing its global brand together for the first time at World Travel Market, where it is exhibiting in the Global Village.

The hotel group franchises more than 5,600 hotels worldwide, representing more than 5,600 hotels with growth markets in Mexico, China, India, Central and South America, the Middle East and eastern Europe.

WTM will also see the unveiling of a new Irish hotel brand – Maldron Hotels. The creation of the brand follows last year’s acquisition by Dalata of 11 Quality and Comfort Hotels in Ireland.

Green Tourism for London Awards

On the afternoon of Wednesday November 12, World Travel Market’s Responsible Tourism Day, 22 London businesses will receive Green Tourism for London Awards.

The scheme, managed by the London Development Agency, was launched in October 2007. This will be its first awards ceremony. The event is open to all London tourism businesses.
