Latin America: WTM exhibitor preview

Amazon Co-operation Treaty Organisation (LA1170)

This year’s World Travel Market will see the international launch of a new sustainable tourism initiative, Destination Amazonia Year 2009.

The scheme, aimed at raising the profile of the Amazon as a new ecotourism destination, is a collaboration between the Amazon Co-operation Treaty Organisation and the eight member countries – Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

ACTO tourism co-ordinator Donald Sinclair said: “Our aim is to introduce visitors to the incomparable nature tourism in Amazonia, currently experienced by just a few of the huge numbers who visit our beaches and urban tourism centres.

“World Travel Market is the perfect opportunity to start our outreach to international tourists, as not only will we reach the UK market but also buyers from countries all over the world.”

PromPeru (LA3000)

Peru is the subject of a press and trade seminar from 2pm-5pm on Monday November 10, PromPeru.

It will also be showcasing archaeological sites, adventure travel, wildlife, ornithology, its superb cuisine, history and culture and of course, not forgetting, the Amazon Rainforest.

Join PromPeru and guest speaker Simon Calder, travel editor of the Independent and Travel Weekly columnist, to discover the Amazon Rainforest. Visitors can find out more by visiting the stand after the seminar for drinks and canapés.

Brazilian Tourist Board (LA6000)

The Brazilian Tourist Board wants to educate the trade about the country to show there’s more to it than Rio de Janeiro.

Following a number of travel trade workshops that were held across the UK in October, the tourist board is keen to speak to agents about what the country has to offer – from ecotourism to food and drink. Other attendees from Brazil include tour operator Atairu Brasil (LA6000).
