Somak has introduced five new Kenya tours celebrating Barack Obama’s family heritage.
The tours give clients the opportunity to explore Kogelo in the west of the country, which was the birthplace of Obama’s father. Options include a day trip from Nairobi, an overnight stay in the west of Kenya, and three longer tours all including safaris, tours and a visit to Kakamega Forest.
Prices start at £265 per person for a day trip to Kogelo, including a lunch and a tour, and Somak will be sending marketing material to agents this week.
Meanwhile, operators are already seeing a spike in demand for US holidays.
Jetset Holidays has already seen an upturn in the number of bookings for people travelling to Washington in time for January 20 – the date of Obama’s inauguration.
Jetset product manager Jonathan Ditte said: “Agents started calling us as soon as we opened on the morning after the election. There’s a real buzz about America now, and people want to be a part of it.”
The operator is offering trips to Annapolis, Baltimore and Richmond as an alternative to Washington.
“Availability in Washington is already a nightmare over the inauguration period. But Washington is very easy to reach from all these cities, and if people act quickly they can look forward to being there on a day no-one will ever forget,” added Ditte.
