The UK’s most famous ocean liner the Queen Elizabeth 2 briefly ran aground on its final farewell voyage.
The Cunard Line ship, which has carried more than 2.5 million guests over 5.9 million nautical miles in a 39-year career, was blown on to a sandbank as it made its way into its home port of Southampton and was delayed for 25 minutes.
Now safely berthed in the port, the QE2 is receiving a farewell visit from the Duke of Edinburgh as part of today’s Remembrance Day commemorations, before setting off on her final voayge to Dubai where new owners Nakheel will convert it into a luxury hotel.
