Tourism minister John Glen has been switched to become City minister in Theresa May’s government reshuffle.
The MP for Salisbury moves to the Treasury after holding responsibility for tourism for little more than six months.
Whitehall has yet to confirm who will take over the tourism brief in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport although two new ministers were announced.
Former Department for Business under secretary Margot James has become a minister at the DDCMS alongside parliamentary under secretary Michael Ellis, former deputy leader of the House of Commons.
The DDCMS said ministerial roles “will be confirmed in due course”.
This reflects a similar situation at the Department for Transport, where the roles of aviation and shipping ministers have yet to be confirmed.
New faces at the DfT include former universities minister Jo Johnson, brother of foreign secretary and leading Heathrow expansion opponent Boris Johnson, as minister of state and minsiter for London, plus former government whip Baroness Sugg and ex-assistant government whip Nusrat Ghani as parliamentary under secretaries of state.
Chris Grayling remains as transport secretary after incorrectly being announced as the new Conservative Party chairman on the Tories’ official Twitter feed.
The message was deleted and Brandon Lewis appointed to the role.
