Dominica welcomes first major cruise ship since Hurricane Maria

Dominica has welcomed its first major cruise ship since the island was hit by Hurricane Maria in the autumn.

Tui Cruises’ MV Mein Schiff 3 arrived on January 28, bringing more than 2,000 passengers.

It was the first call to the Roseau cruise ship berth post Hurricane Maria.

Dominica’s government, through its ministry of tourism and urban renewal, has invested more than $3 million on restoration of access, rehabilitation, upgrading of sites and clean-up of debris since Hurricane Maria.

The island has also prepared to welcome visitors across the island’s natural sites.

Passengers of Mein Schiff 3 took shore excursions such as tours to the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Twin Falls, Bois Cotlette Estate, Titou Gorge, whale watching tours and the island’s black sand Mero Beach.

MV Mein Schiff 3 is expected to make five more calls to the island during the 2017/2018 cruise season.
