Virgin Atlantic has launched a £6 million advertising campaign and promised some of its lowest ever fares to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
At the centre of its new campaign are TV advertisements set in 1984, when the airline started, featuring glamorous flight attendants and the pilot walking through the airport to its inaugural flight to New York. The advert features iconic images of the 1980s, such as the Rubik’s Cube, ‘brick-sized’ mobile phones, Our Price Records and the Asteroids video game.
The airline celebrates its 25th anniversary on June 22, 2009, and will be launching a series of special fares, campaigns and events in the run-up to the date. More than 65 million passengers have travelled with the airline since it started.
Chief executive Steve Ridgway said the airline would be offering some of its “lowest fares ever” as part of the celebrations. He added: “We’re fighting against the doom and gloom in the airline industry.”
