A surge in the number of travellers from the US and more business travellers pushed Eurostar sales up by 11% last year.
Sales revenues in 2017 were up by 11% to £880 million as passenger numbers rose by 3% to 10.3 million.
This enabled the high-speed passenger Channel Tunnel rail service to report an operating profit of £57.6 million for 2017.
US users of Eurostar grew by 26% year-on-year with numbers set to raise again in 2018.
“With the royal wedding in the UK in May and Paris hosting the Ryder Cup in September, the boost in traffic from the US market looks set to continue,” the company said.
The numbers of business travellers grew by 8% last year “reinforcing the appetite among business passengers for the speed, ease and convenience of high speed rail over plane”.
Tickets have now gone on sales for a new Amsterdam service from London starting on April 4 following a website glitch last week.
Eurostar chief executive Nicolas Petrovic said: “Last year we saw a real revival in the US market combined with good growth in business travel.
“Following a positive performance in 2017 we are now well placed to expand our reach to The Netherlands.
“With over four million passengers travelling by air every year between London and Amsterdam, the growth potential for the service and the overall market is significant.”
