Parkdean Resorts to invest £42m in UK portfolio

Domestic operator Parkdean Resorts is pledging to spend £42 million on its UK holiday parks.

The investment includes more than £7 million to enhance its parks in the south-west ahead of the 2018 holiday season.

More than £3 million will be spent to bring new accommodation to parks across the region to help meet increased demand for holidays and ownership opportunities.

New lodges, with hot tubs installed at selected accommodation, will be built at Warmwell near Weymouth in Dorset.

A revamped show bar and arcade will take place at a cost of £275,000 at Mullion on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall.

The work comes as part of a wider investment of £42 million across the company this year, following a record £50 million-worth of spending last year.

The 2018 spend takes the company’s investment total to £130 million since 2016.

A total of £13 million is being spent on 800 new caravans, including more one and four-bedroom units.

Four bedroom caravans for families will be introduced to a selection of parks, featuring a central lounge layout, a double and twin room at each end and a veranda.

The business now has 72% double glazed and central heated caravans due to an increase of more than 1,450 in the last three years.

New lodges including a variety of four-bedroom models are set to be added to a range of parks offering wider choice following a £1.3 million investment. The 20 new four-bedroom lodges include patio doors leading out onto verandas, bigger bathrooms and spacious dining areas.

A further £3.9 million will be spent on refurbishing existing accommodation.

Upgrades to shops and leisure facilities will be completed for the 2018 season, as well as extensions of touring and camping areas at key parks.

A total of 27 parks, eight more than the previous year, welcomed 2018’s first holidaymakers during February school half-term.

Parkdean Resorts chief executive John Waterworth said: “This year our £42 million investment plans really show our commitment to continually developing our parks, and creating the best possible holidaymaker and owner experiences.

“In 2018 we have a focus on bringing in new caravans and lodges to follow the growth in consumer demand. We also regularly collect guest feedback, and from this made the decision to introduce more one and four-bedroom models.”
