The pilot who saved the lives of 155 people when he crash landed a US Airways Airbus A320 into the Hudson River west of New York City has been hailed a hero.
The US Airbus A320 departed from LaGuardia Airport en route to Charlotte, North Carolina at 15.03 (localtime) crash-landing in the river after being hit by a flock of birds which disabled two engines.
Captain Chesley Sullenberger was praised for his quick thinking which saved the lives of all 155 on board. One person suffered two broken legs and paramedics treated 78 people for injuries.
