MASON MOVES TO NEW WEEKEND TRAVEL SITE


Mick Mason has joined new travel Web site webweekends.co.uk as sales director. The new travel directory will be launched in May and will be the UK’s first on-line information service offering details of themed and packaged weekend breaks in the UK and abroad. For the past three years, Mason worked in display sales for Travel Weekly.


DALTON CASE STAYED BECAUSE OF ILLNESS


Criminal charges against the former managing director of car rental broker Budget Leisure, Lorraine Ann Dalton, have been discontinued. A St Albans Crown Court spokesman said the case had been stayed because Dalton is terminally ill. Dalton had pleaded not guilty to 10 charges including false accounting, theft and evading liability by deception. She was due to appear in court on February 28. Budget Leisure has no connection with Budget Rent A Car.


EUROPCAR UK POST FOR KIRSTEN ROENNAU


Europcar UK has announced the appointment of Kirsten Roennau as the new marketing director. Roennau joins from Europcar International where she worked as director of international operations. She replaces Stephen Jones who now acts as a freelance consultant for the car-hire firm.


AIRPORTS’ OPERATING PROFIT HIT BY DUTY-FREE


East Midlands and Bournemouth airports said the loss of duty-free reduced their operating profit by £1m last year. The two National Express-owned airports made an operating profit increase of just £400,000 to £12.9m between them last year. National Express profits were up to £113.2m, before exceptionals, from £95.8m in 1998.
