Travel Weekly uncovers possible IATA fraudster

Travel Weekly’s Fraud Awareness Month has uncovered a possible fraudster posing as a representative of IATA.

Ruth Campbell of Campbells Hotel in Leicester contacted Travel Weekly after a guest tried to sell her ‘IATA membership‘.

She said: “He told me the membership would entitle the owner to be their own travel agent and obtain holidays and flights at wholesale prices.“

Davenport Lyons lawyer Trevor Sears, who acts as legal council for IATA, said: “IATA membership is not something that is soldpeople must apply for it. Travel agents should be wary of anyone claiming to represent IATA.

“I think it’s fantastic that Travel Weekly‘s fraud coverage has brought this to light, and IATA will be speaking to the hotelier and investigating.”
