Wow Air to offer Gatwick-Delhi connections via Reykjavik

The UK to India via Iceland is the latest low-cost flight wheeze to be dreamt up by Wow Air.

The airline is to start flying to Delhi from its Icelandic hub in Reykjavik this winter with single fares starting at £149.

Passengers will be able to take off from Gatwick for a stop over in Iceland before connecting onto a ten and a half hour onward flight to India’s capital.

While UK travellers using the service will initially travel west, the airline expects its competitive fares to still entice those looking to keep their costs down.

The route from December 6 is the first step in the carrier’s next phase of cross-continental expansion following the introduction of a series of transatlantic services in the past three years.

The airline is to deploy an Airbus A330neo to Delhi three times a week from Iceland, increasing to five flights week from January 2019.

Flights from Gatwick to Reykjavik operate twice daily.

Wow Air chief executive Skúli Mogensen said: “We are delighted to announce our network expansion in to India.

“This exciting new route is an important milestone in the growth of Wow Air and signifies our continuing mission to open the skies and enable even greater travel possibilities, always at the best rates possible.”
