P&O Aurora breaks down in New Zealand

P&O cruise ship Aurora has broken down in Auckland, New Zealand in the middle of a round-the-world cruise.

Aurora was due to leave the port on Saturday, but a problem with a propeller forced it to remain in Auckland while repairs are carried out.

The ship skipped stops at Wellington and Napier on the way to Auckland, and visits to the Tahitian islands of Moorea and Papeete have also been cancelled.

A spokesman for P&O Cruises said the ship would leave Auckland on Wednesday night. It will sail direct to Honolulu, then on to San Francisco and Southampton.

In the meantime, P&O is offering complimentary drinks and shore excursions.

The Aurora has its home port at Southampton and there are mainly British passengers on board. It is on a 93-night world voyage which left Southampton on January 11.
