New tours highlighting vegan food culture are being introduced by adventure operator Intrepid Travel.
The vegan food trips will be run in India, Thailand and Italy in 2019.
Each trip will offer plant-based food experiences and include insider tips on where to find the best vegan options.
The move follows a Vegan Society survey which found that the population of British vegans increased by 350% in a decade to 542,000 in 2016, while 2% of the UK’s population are now vegetarian.
Intrepid Travel regional product manager Tara Kennaway said: “Our local tour leaders are receiving more vegetarian and vegan food requests from UK travellers. ‘Vegan’ is also now one of our most commonly searched words on the Intrepid website.
“Food is one of the best ways to connect with a local culture, but dietary requirements can be tricky with language barriers. Why should vegans miss out on authentic food experiences?
“You might think somewhere like Italy, famous for its pizza and pasta, won’t have vegan options readily available.
“The opposite is true and we wanted to share our leaders’ local knowledge and cater to vegan travellers,” Kennaway added.
