Technical problems halt Celebrity Millennium cruise

Celebrity Cruises’ Millennium has cancelled its March 15 sailing from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia.

The company said the ship was experiencing a mechanical problem involving its starboard propulsion system. At the end of the current cruise, the ship will return empty from Auckland to Sydney where it will be repaired.

“The ship is operating safely, however this is a matter that must be addressed now. Therefore we will place the ship in drydock to correct the problem,” said a spokesman.

Passengers booked on the cruise will be offered a full refund, credit for a future cruise and compensation of up to $250 for airline change fees. The cruise was a 14-night sailing from Auckland to Sydney.
