Norwegian Bliss has been christened in Seattle.
The vessel, Norwegian Cruise Line’s third ship in the Breakaway Plus class, became the largest ship to be christened in the Washington state city.
Nearly 2,400 people witnessed the onboard ceremony, led by radio show host Elvis Duran and The Morning Show crew.
Duran officially christened Bliss with the symbolic bottle break across the ship’s hull.
The main event took place in the 900-seat Bliss Theatre with screens showing the event around the ship, which was docked at Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66.
The terminal has recently undergone a renovation, thanks to investment made by Norwegian Cruise Line and the Port of Seattle.
Frank Del Rio, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ president and chief executive, and Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line, welcomed travel partners, investors and industry representatives on board.
Del Rio said: “Norwegian Cruise Line has been cruising out of the Port of Seattle for 18 years and the public-private investment that made the enhancement of Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 possible demonstrates the commitment we have to the city of Seattle.”
Bliss will start its inaugural summer season with cruises to Alaska, including calls in Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau and Victoria.
Bliss, Norwegian Jewel and Norwegian Pearl will form the youngest fleet to ever sail in Alaska, according to the line.
