Southampton Airport staff ‘most helpful in Europe’

Staff at Southampton airport have been named the most helpful and courteous in Europe for the second year in a row.

Airports Council International surveyed 200,000 passengers worldwide in 2007. They were asked about more than 30 aspects of service from the check-in desk to the departure gate.

Southampton airport was given the ‘airport people award’  which reflects its strong customer service. The airport also came fifth in the Best Airport in Europe category.

The three best performing airports worldwide were Seoul’s Incheon airport, Kuala Lumpur airport and Singapore Changi in third place.

Regional awards went to Oporto in Europe, Dallas Fort Worth in North America, Johannesburg in Africa, Guayaquil in Latin America & Caribbean, Tel Aviv in the Middle East and Incheon in Asia-Pacific.

The official awards ceremony will be held on April 1 at a gala dinner at the two-day ACI conference on customer service and facilitation in Shanghai.

Southampton airport managing director Kevin Brown said:  “At Southampton Airport we place great emphasis on providing friendly service, and a quick and easy experience for passengers. We refer to this as “breeze through” and it is certainly really popular with passengers travelling throughout Europe.”
