Best Western raises discount levels to attract winter trade

BEST Western has increased discount levels in its Getaway Breaks Winter Specials promotion to try to attract more customers during its off-peak period.

The hotel consortium is offering reductions of up to 30% on a two-night short-break at participating hotels this year, compared with 20% last winter.

Head of leisure marketing Jennie Brookes said the change had been made because some hotels felt they would have the room availability early next year.

“Generally this is a quieter time in the hotel industry,” she said. “That’s why it’s a suitable time to make the offer.”

Best Western consortium members choose for themselves whether they want to take part in the promotion and the size of the discounts they wish to offer. The promotion covers November 1 to February 29 but hotels participate at times of their own choosing. Altogether, around 210 out of Best Western’s 240 properties are involved in the scheme this year.

These include Park Hall at Chorley in Lancashire, which incorporates the Camelot theme park, Regency Park near Newbury and Apsley Guise near Woburn in Buckinghamshire.

However, the number of hotels taking part in the promotion is expected to rise to around 300 after the merger with the Consort hotel consortium takes place on January 1 (Travel Weekly March 8). Consort has around 180 hotel members.

The winter offer also includes reduced admission charges at visitor attractions such as Madame Tussaud’s, Granada Studios and Warwick Castle.

Meanwhile, Millennium Dome tickets can be booked with breaks at Best Western’s hotels in southeast England.
