Further evidence of the impact of the recession and weak pound comes with news from rail travel firm thetrainline.com that advance ticket sales booked through its site are up 43% year on year.
It measured bookings for Maunday Thursday to Easter Saturday on rail routes across the country. Birmingham to London is up 238% Glasgow to London up 320% and Edinburgh to Manchester is up 141%.
According to thetrainline.com nearly 45,000 people have already booked their tickets for the Easter bank holiday through the website – up from almost 31,000 last year.
