British Airways is to end its route from Gatwick to Oakland.
The airline said the final service on the route, which launched in 2016, will depart on October 20 2018 but insisted it was “incredibly committed” to the Bay area region of the United States.
A spokesman for the carrier said: “We regularly review our schedule to ensure that we are flying to destinations popular with our customers.
“We already operate two incredibly successful routes from the Bay area. We launched a new direct service to San Jose in 2016 and we have 21 flights a week to SFO [San Francisco] and SJC [San Jose] alone.
“We’re incredibly committed to this region and to flying customers to these cities.”
The withdrawal brings an end to BA’s competition with Norwegian on the route.
