Maritime expert Thomas Boardley has been named as new secretary general of Clia Europe. He will join the organisation on October 1 and will play a key part in strategically implementing the cruise industry body’s programmes across Europe.
He replaces Andreas Chrysostomou, who has been in the role in an interim capacity following the departure of Tom Fecke in November.
Boardley has a background in the global shipping and port industries and was most recently executive vice president, corporate and external affairs at Lloyd’s Register.
He was the president of UK Chamber of Shipping from 2015 to 2016.
Clia president and chief Cindy D’Aoust said: “Tom’s extensive industry body experience makes him a welcome addition to our leadership team.
“These are dynamic times for the European cruise market and I look forward to working with Tom to ensure the future continued success of the cruise market throughout Europe.”
Boardley’s pro-bono positions include chairman of the board of trustees of the Mission to Seafarers, a charity devoted to seafarers’ welfare, and visiting Professor at Strathclyde University.
