Ex-Shearings boss joins ground transport firm

Ground transport and accommodation company CMAC Group has appointed ex -Shearings Leisure Group chief executive Denis Wormwell as chairman.

Wormwell led a buyout of the escorted touring company in 2014 before selling in 2016.

Prior to Shearings, he held senior roles including at coach company National Express, Club 18-30 Holidays, Flying Colours Leisure Group and Thomas Cook.

He is chairman of tourism board Visit England and a non-executive director of the British Tourist Authority.

CMAC, based in Accrington and formed in 2007, provides pre-planned and emergency ground transport and accommodation solutions, arranging over one million coach, minibus and taxi journeys per year to its customers.

Steve Turner, chief executive at CMAC, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Denis to CMAC. His experience and knowledge will be vital at a time of rapid growth at CMAC and will ensure that we remain fully focused in all our business areas as we continue to expand. We look forward to working with him.”
