Wizz Air has appointed former IKEA boss Peter Agnefjäll as an independent non-executive director.
He will sit on the low-cost airline’s board while John McMahon, who has been a director for six years, will retire.
McMahon the company’s senior independent non-executive director and a member of its audit committee and nomination committee.
Agnefjäll will join the audit committee and Simon Duffy, chairman of the audit committee, will be appointed as senior independent non-executive director while independent non-executive director Barry Eccleston will be appointed to the firm’s nomination committee.
The changes were voted for at Wizz Air’s annual general meeting on Tuesday July 24, 2018.

“At the same time, we bid farewell to John McMahon who is retiring from the board after more than six years as a valued and knowledgeable independent non-executive director.”
Agnefjäll, a Swedish national, was president and chief executive of IKEA Group from 2013 to 2017 and is currently also a director of Norwegian branded foods supplier Orkla ASA.
During his time in charge of IKEA, Agnefjäll oversaw a 35% growth in turnover to €36 billion, with an average net profit of €3.5 billion/year as the number of “co-workers” at IKEA grew from 30,000 to 140,000.
