Consort Travel Group still undecided on future consortium membership

Irish-based Consort Travel Group says it is unlikely to make any announcement on its future consortium membership for at least a couple of weeks.

The group, part of the Global Travel Group-owned Independent Options consortium, is known to be considering whether to join a new consortium such as Advantage or develop closer ties with the Triton Travel Group.

Advantage chief executive John McEwan said: “I understand they are still reviewing their options and we have been in talks because they have asked questions about Advantage. Our strategy is not to solicit for new members but we respond to people who approach us.”

On average, Advantage attracts six or seven new members each month, he added.

Consort Travel Group secretary John Buchanan said no decision had yet been made and said members’ views would be sought as part of the process.

Triton Travel Group chairman Steven Freudmann said the group could not make any statement on new members despite original hopes of an imminent announcement.
