The Blue Man Group will be performing on Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) new ship Norwegian Epic, which went on sale at 9am today, 14 months before the vessel’s scheduled maiden voyage on July 17 2010.
Revealing final details of the entertainment on board Norwegian Epic in New York yesterday, executive vice-president global sales and passenger services Andy Stuart said NCL searched Las Vegas, Broadway and the West End to find the latest cutting-edge entertainment for the new ship.
He said the vessel, which will be the largest in the NCL fleet, has been designed to take cruise ship entertainment to the next level. “It was clear to us the future for Epic is blue,” he said.
The trio, who appear with blue painted faces and blue gloved hands, perform an off-beat act that involves music, comedy and theatrics. They will performing eight times per cruise in the ship’s theatre.
Epic will also have a 200-seat blues and jazz club called Fat Cats, where there will be nightly live performances with a “hint of Memphis” and a 280-seat comedy club, Headliners, which will feature improvisation act Second City, who already perform on other NCL ships.
Finally, the ship will have the only big top at sea, with seating for 265 people, where passengers can dine while watching a two-hour show starring contortionists, acrobats and jugglers. Stuart said: “It’s the only dining venue where the performers really will be bending over backwards to please.”
Norwegian Epic, which holds 4,200 passengers, went on sale to existing NCL customers yesterday. It will be sailing alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with cruise-only prices from £479 per person.
